Volkswagen has launched a new trim level for the Golf range – the Match – which is set to provide greater value and more standard equipment than the SE model it replaces.

The Match is on sale now priced from £14,995, making it £380 cheaper than the SE model.

Changes for the new Match model include the addition of 15-inch Canberra ten-spoke alloy wheels, together with body-colour bumpers, side rubbing strips and door handles.

Inside, there’s a leather-trimmed three-spoke steering wheel with controls for the stereo and multifunction computer, plus a link cable in the centre armrest to provide connectivity for MP3 players and USB devices.

The new Golf Match is powered by a choice of petrol or diesel engine.  The 1.6-litre FSI petrol produces 115 PS and can be mated to a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox.

The 1.9-litre TDI diesel unit produces 105 PS and is available with either five-speed manual or six-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox.

The Match, which is available in five-door form only, is expected to account for over a third of all Golf sales.
