Volkswagen has confirmed prices for the new Golf GTI, which made its world debut recently at the Paris Motor Show.

The three-door model will start from £19,995 when it goes on sale in the UK in January, with the five-door priced at £20,495.

Standard equipment will include 2Zone electronic climate control, ten-speaker CD player, multifunction computer, ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme), driver, front passenger, front seat side and curtain airbag systems and automatic driving lights. 17″ alloy wheels are fitted as standard, with optional 18″ versions available for £445.

The new Golf GTI is offered with just one engine – a 200 PS 2.0-litre turbocharged FSI. Featuring homogenous direct-injection, this four-cylinder powerplant produces 207 lbs ft of torque available from 1,800 to 5,100 rpm. It’s fitted to either a six-speed manual transmission or Volkswagen’s DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox), a £1,325 option.
