The Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid, billed as the world’s first diesel plug-in hybrid by the company, is now available in the popular sporty R-Design trim.

The new R-Design model features special front bumper and grille, revised rear bumper with air diffuser, and larger 18-inch alloy wheels.

The interior, meanwhile, includes sports seats upholstered in nubuck and perforated leather, plus black headlining, sports pedals, and branded floor mats.

The V60 PHEV’s drivetrain continues unchanged, with a 2.4-litre five-cylinder turbodiesel producing 215hp and 440Nm of torque, plus an electric motor mounted in the rear axle that delivers an additional 70hp and 200Nm.

The driver can select from three modes – Pure, Hybrid, and Power.  Hybrid, the default mode, allows the V60 to deliver an incredible fuel economy figure of 155.2mpg with CO2 emissions of just 48 g/km.

Pure mode drives the V60 for up to 31 miles on battery power alone, while Power mode uses the electric motor to assist the diesel engine during acceleration to deliver additional performance.

The Volvo V60 D6 AWD R-Design Lux Nav is available to order now priced from £51,675 (excluding a £5,000 Government grant).  First deliveries are expected in August 2014.
