The model line-up for the new Colt 3-door range has been announced by Mitsubishi.

In showrooms from February, 3-door prices start at £7,499 for the entry-level 1.1-litre Colt Red, rising to £10,249 for the 1.5 DI-D Equippe and £12,999 for the flagship 147bhp Colt CZT.

The new Colt 3-door range consists of four trim levels – Red, Attivo, Equippe and Mirage – while the Colt CZT features its own unique specification. All models feature driver and passenger front airbags, ABS and EBD braking, Isofix fittings on the outer rear seats, remote central locking, a four speaker CD audio system, colour coded bumpers, engine immobiliser, front power windows with anti-trap and one-touch function and electronic power steering.

Moving up from the entry-level 1.1-litre £7,499 Colt Red, Attivo trim then adds a leather steering wheel and gearshift, driver seat height adjustment and 15-inch alloys all for £8,249. The Equippe grade is available at £9,249 with a 1.3-litre petrol engine (plus £500 for AMT transmission) and £10,249 if a 1.5 DI-D engine is preferred and gets rear disc brakes, two more speakers, electric/heated door mirrors and air conditioning. The Colt Mirage starts at £9,249 for the 1.1-litre and £9,749 for the 1.3-litre. The Mirage features 16-inch alloys, rear spoiler, red interior trim, red leather trimmed steering wheel and gearshift, alloy pedals, steering wheel mounted audio controls and front fogs.

All petrol engines are Mitsubishi-developed all-alloy, four-valves-per-cylinder, DOHC units, featuring the MIVEC system which switches between inlet cam profiles to boost torque at low speeds and power at high speeds for all-round greater performance and efficiency. Combining flexibility and frugality, the 95bhp direct injection, common rail DOHC diesel with turbocharger and intercooler notches up 58.9mpg in the combined cycle, and completes the 0 to 62 mph dash in 9.9 seconds.

Rear seat passengers have the convenience of reclining backrests – split 60:40 – and the one-piece seat cushion also slides. Fully folding the rear seats opens up 535 litres of luggage space (VDA), while the front passenger seat backrest can be folded forward allowing long items to be carried.

With its 1.5-litre turbocharged and intercooled engine, uprated suspension and strengthened bodyshell, the £12,999 Colt CZT is apparently designed to appeal to those “seeking instant and effortless performance with sharp styling to match.” 0 to 62 mph is dispatched in 8 seconds on its way to a 130mph top speed. Maximum power is 147bhp at 6,000 rpm with maximum torque of 210 Nm at 3,500 rpm.

The CZT has stiffer dampers and springs all round, strengthened mounts and bushings, a reinforced lower front suspension arm and standard-fit ESP and traction control.

The Colt CZT has a unique front bumper design with polished steel mesh grille, dark grey metallic headlamp bezels, a sports exhaust and unique 16-inch alloy wheels shod with 205/45R 16 tyres. A large front rubber air dam, side air dams, and a large rear wing type spoiler complete the package.

Inside, there’s a black interior, black leather trimmed gear shift and steering wheel with audio controls, drilled aluminium pedals, silver accents on the dial surrounds, air vents and door handles, white meters with unique graphics, and door entry scuff plates.
