A few years ago, the national press and – it seemed – the national psyche, were preoccupied by an excess of Daily Mail-style hand-wringing about 4x4s being planet-killers and gas-guzzlers. I’d have loved to have had a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV back then, because this is an SUV that would have blown their tiny minds. Why? Two numbers: 156 mpg and 42 g/km.
