Renault opens order book for its new Modus

Renault’s new small car, Modus, is now available to order with deliveries starting in September and prices starting at £9,250 on-the-road.

Four trim levels are available – Authentique, Expression, Dynamique and Privilège – while all models have ABS with EBA and EBD, driver’s side blind-spot eliminating mirror, electric front windows, height adjustable steering wheel, ISOFIX three-point seat attachment system, remote control central locking, Renault Anti-Intruder Device (R.A.I.D.), “See Me Home” headlights, four airbags (driver and front passenger two-stage adaptive and two lateral) and variable assisted power steering.

The entry-level Authentique includes all of the standard equipment listed above as well as having body-tinted plastic bumpers and a 60/40 split “Triptic” rear seat.

The Expression adds two more airbags, body-painted coloured bumpers, electric front windows with one touch control, electrically operated and heated door mirrors, height adjustable driver’s seat, ‘Stay Put’ pocket system in the front passenger seat, temperature gauge and a 30W single CD RDS radio with 2 speakers and fingertip controls.

Dynamique adds a sporting note with its charcoal grey upholstery and leather steering wheel and gear lever, plus a chrome satin finish for the door handles, gear lever knob, parking brake button and dashboard centre console. As the mid-range offering, it has all of the Expression’s standard equipment plus alloy wheels, body coloured door mirrors and integral front fog lamps.

Privilège has a luxurious interior with soft touch door panels and dashboard and beige seat trim. The current flagship model has automatic front windscreen wipers with rain sensors, automatic headlights, child surveillance mirror, cornering headlights, electrically operated and heated folding door mirrors, electric rear windows, manual air conditioning, storage under driver’s seat, plus a 60W single CD RDS radio with 4 speakers and fingertip controls.

A top-of-the-range Initiale version is due in 2005.

There are five engine choices available initially, with three petrol and two diesels. The petrol line-up comprises a 1.2-litre 16V 75 hp and 1.4 16V 98, with diesel powerplants including the 1.5-litre dCi 65 and dCi 80.

All engines drive through manual five-speed gearboxes, with a four-speed ‘Pro-active’ “flick-shift” automatic available on the 1.6 litre petrol Dynamique and Privilège models.

Prices start at £9,250 for the Authentique 1.2 16V 75, rising to £13,000 for the Privilège 1.6 16V 113 Auto.

Customers can also choose from six options packs which save money compared to buying each item individually:

There are twelve colours to choose from: three non-metallic – Coral, Glacier White and Sherwood Green – and nine metallics – Aqua, Blackcurrant (Dec 2004), Citrus Yellow, Espresso, Flame Red, Khaki Green, Odyssey Blue, Platinum, Pearl Black and Sahara.
