Renault’s Megane is now available with a 2.0-litre 165hp turbocharged petrol engine.

The new engine is available across the range, meaning Coupé-Cabriolet, Scénic, Grand Scénic Hatch and three-door Sport Hatch.

When fitted to the Hatch, the new turbo petrol engine has a top speed of 137mph, 0-62mph time of 8.3 secs, 165hp at 5,000rpm and maximum torque of 270Nm at 3,250rpm.

Developed from the naturally aspirated 2.0 16V engine, it employs a specially devised “twin scroll” turbocharger whose technology improves efficiency by limiting the degree to which exhaust gas can be re-aspirated, thus optimising the filling of the cylinder with fresh air and gives instant, smooth power delivery.

Fuel economy is rated at 26.6 mpg (urban), 47.1 mpg (extra-urban) and 36.7 mpg (combined), which represents an increase over the normally aspirated version.  A drop in emissions is also evident.

The new models are fitted with a six-speed gearbox, Thatcham category 1 alarm and immobiliser, remote central locking, deadlocking, Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) free for a limited period, and are visually differentiated from their lesser-powered siblings by way of a subtle, silver 2.0T badge on each model’s side strips.

On sale now, prices start at £15,090 on the road for the Megane Sport Hatch in Dynamique trim, rising to £20,820 for the Megane Coupe-Cabriolet Privilege.

Renault has also announced a range of new options for the Sport Tourer range, including an electric panoramic glass sunroof, Comfort Pack (electric panoramic glass sunroof, dash mounted six CD multi-changer, electric folding door mirrors and Hands Free Renault Card) and Luxury Pack (electric panoramic glass sunroof, leather upholstery and heated seats). Available to order now, prices for the latest additions are £600, £850 and £1,100 respectively.
