Renault has launched a new Clio Renaultsport 182 Cup.
Debuting at the Paris Motor Show 2004, the new Clio Renaultsport 182 Cup is a lighter version, with a number of technical developments and all at a reduced price of £13,800.
ABS, Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), cruise control and a speed limiter are all fitted as standard, although the climate control system has been replaced with manual air conditioning to save weight. The 160 W radio / single CD has been replaced by a 88 W radio / single CD player whilst the 60:40 split rear seats with head restraints have been replaced by a one piece folding rear bench seat.
Lateral airbags, xenon headlamps, headlamp wash, automatic headlamps, automatic wipers and heat reflecting windscreen have also been removed, as has some minor trim detailing.
The Clio Renaultsport 182 Cup is now 20 kg lighter than the existing Clio Renaultsport 182 helping the Cup version to deliver an improved 0-62 time of 6.9 seconds (compared to 7.1 seconds for the 182). Engine output is unchanged at 182 hp at 6,500 rpm and a torque of 200 Nm at 5,250 rpm.
The Clio Renaultsport 182 Cup benefits from lower ride height, stiffer springs (20% front, 15% rear) stiffer dampers (20% front, 10% rear), strengthened front wheel hub carriers, revised steering geometry and dark grey anthracite coloured Renaultsport alloy wheels as standard.
The Clio Renaultsport 182 Cup is only available in two colours – Racing Blue and the new Inferno orange colour – and will feature exclusive ‘Cup’ badges on the base of the B pillar in line with the rear windows.
The Cup spoiler package consists of an enlarged rear spoiler and additional lower front spoiler. White Competition Stripes on the Racing Blue version are available for £95.
Inside, Graphic Night upholstery replaces the leather and alcantara of the 182.
To help make up for the reduced spec, the Clio Renaultsport 182 Cup is now priced at £13,800, a saving of £900 compared to the previous model. With the Cup Suspension and Spoiler packs fitted as standard on the 182 Cup – a £395 option on the 182 – the total customer saving is £1,295.
