Prices revealed for New Renault Clio III

The order books are now open for one of the UK’s Top 10 best-selling cars, ready for first customer deliveries of the all-new Clio III from 15th October 2005. Prices and equipment levels are released and prove Renault is continuing its positioning of offering class-leading equipment levels at very competitive prices even though the new Clio looks set to raise the overall standard in the supermini class once again.

Since Renault unveiled the first pictures of its all-new Clio III on June 16th, revealing a new dynamic look and a high quality and spacious cabin, interest levels have been high, not surprising considering that Clio has been a Top 10 UK best-seller for over 10 years.

Available to order from Thursday 18th August, New Clio III will be launched in the most popular three-door version first which accounts for 75% of UK Clio sales, with the five-door to follow in January 2006. With prices starting at £8,895, new Clio III is available with several innovative features that are new for the B segment, including the Renault hands-free unlocking and ignition keycard, and tyre pressure monitoring.

Some of the clever features first introduced on Modus such as dedicated cornering headlights are also available on Clio, as well the powerful and economical 1.5 dCi 106 engine with a six speed gearbox – a first for the supermini B sector – which debuted to much acclaim on Modus earlier this year.

Prices start from £8,895 for the Extreme 1.2 16V 75 rising to £12,650 for the sporty and stylish, Dynamique S 1.5 dCi 106 six speed.

New Clio III will launch with a wide choice of engines. Three petrol engines, the 1.2 16V 75, the 1.4 16V 98 and the 1.6 VVT 111. Renault’s award winning and popular 1.5 dCi engine will come in three versions; the 1.5 dCi 68, 1.5 dCi 86 and the powerful but frugal 1.5 dCi 106.

Expected to be the most popular trim level is the sporty Dynamique with the mid range 1.4 98hp engine taking the bulk of the orders. If Clio’s main competition were hoping that Renault would be pricing this all-new car higher at the beginning of its life then they are in for a shock – one that will be a pleasant shock for customers.

The Clio 1.4 98 Dynamique with air conditioning has an on the road price of just £10,750. This compares to a Ford Fiesta 1.6 Zetec S 100hp at £11,595, a Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 SRi 90hp at £11,470 and a VW Polo 1.4 Sport 100hp at £12,220.

Driver and passenger comfort is assured in the stylish New Clio III with its variable assisted power steering, electric windows, radio CD with fingertip remote control, multi-function trip computer, internally adjustable door mirrors with driver’s blind spot eliminating mirror and air recirculation amongst the core features together with tinted windows, double optic headlamps, additional 12V power supply and body coloured bumper inserts. New Clio III is available in a choice of 12 colours, with nine metallic on offer including a new colour, Volcano.

New Clio III has just become the eighth Renault to achieve the maximum five-star Euro NCAP rating and one of only three small cars after the Modus set the class standard early this year with the first five star rating. You would therefore expect new Clio to be packed full of standard safety equipment and it does not disappoint.

All three door Clios are equipped with at least six airbags including driver and front passenger auto adaptive airbags and front lateral airbags and anti-submarining airbags in the seat base. Curtain airbags are also standard on all but the entry level Extreme.

In addition ABS with EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution), Brake Assist, optional ESP (Electronic Stability Programme), two height adjustable three-point front seatbelts with integrated pretensioners and load limiters, three-point rear seatbelts with integrated pretensioners and load limiters on the outer rear seats all come as standard on New Clio.

A new innovative feature is the New Generation Height Adjustable Front Headrests, where the actual head rest itself moves up and down to suit, instead of the metal rods which are no longer rigid within the seat back. This is a significant step forward in protecting occupants’ necks against the effects of whiplash as it allows the occupant to move further back into the seat in a collision reducing the distance to the headrest, and is another standard feature on the five-star New Clio III.

New Clio III also achieved four stars in child protection, and with ISOFIX mounting points on front passenger seat and outer rear seats with front passenger airbag deactivation, customers have the extra reassurance that the whole family can travel in comfort and safety.

Customers are safe in the knowledge that security is assured in New Clio III. Remote central locking with deadlocking, RAID (Renault Anti-Intruder Device) automatic door locking which locks the doors as soon as the car goes over 5mph, anti-drill door locks and locking fuel filler cap and an Insurance approved engine immobiliser all as standard.

New Clio III will be available in four trim versions from launch, Extreme, Expression, Dynamique and Dynamique S.
