A Nissan Patrol has set the Guinness World Record for the ‘heaviest object pulled by any production vehicle’.

The record, which was set at Sharjah International Airport, United Arab Emirates, saw a standard Nissan Patrol tow a cargo plane weighing 170.9 tons over a distance of 50 metres, breaking the previous record by 15 tons.

The cargo plane, an Ilyushin Il-76, is one of the toughest in the world, and is designed to take-off and land in some of the most extreme environments.

Although no longer available in the UK, the Patrol has been in production in one form or another since 1951.

The first Nissan Patrol arrived in Kuwait in 1956 and, since then, the Patrol has had a long-standing relationship with the Middle East region.
