Mercedes has revealed initial details of the CLS 55 AMG, due to hit dealerships in some markets during January 2005.

The four-door coupe is powered by an AMG V8 supercharged engine, which generates 476 hp and 700 Nm (516lb/ft) of torque from a displacement of 5.5 litres.

The engine is mated to a five-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT transmission that can be used in fully automatic or manual modes, using either the selection lever or steering wheel-mounted buttons.

Performance is as you’d expect: 0-62mph arrives in 4.7 seconds, with top speed electronically limited to 155 mph.

Expect to find AMG-tuned semi-active air suspension with an adaptive damping system, a high-performance AMG braking system, AMG sports exhaust system, AMG body styling, 18-inch light-alloy wheels, and new AMG perforated sports seats with lateral piping, double stitching and Alcantara panels at shoulder height.

The CLS 55 AMG will be priced at 96,164 euros.
