Two new 1.6-litre engines, one petrol and one diesel, have been added to the new Volvo S40 saloon range.
Prices for the petrol and diesel start from £15,298 and £16,568 respectively.
Both the new 1.6-litre engines are four-cylinder units. The 1.6 petrol is a lightweight aluminium unit with fuel injection and a five-speed manual gearbox to help it obtain fuel economy of 39.2 mpg on the Combined cycle with low emissions of 171 g/km and group C VED.
The 1.6 diesel is turbocharged with variable turbo geometry and common rail fuel injection with a lightweight aluminium block and head. It generates 110 bhp with 0-62 mph in 12.0 seconds, and can achieve 57.6 mpg on the Combined cycle.
Production of both engines started earlier this month, with first deliveries to customers expected in January 2005.
