Although still a concept, the Mercedes GLA 45 AMG Concept shows that the company is clearly considering a high-performance version of its new GLA SUV.

Much of the drive-train comes from the Mercedes A45 AMG, namely a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine developing a massive 360hp and 450Nm of torque.

Power is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed AMG Speedshift transmission and Mercedes AMG’s 4Matic 4WD system.

In the GLA45 AMG, 0-62mph is said to arrive in under five seconds.

Transferring all that power to the tarmac is the job of the 255/35 R21 tyres, wrapped around matt black forged AMG wheels.  Peeking out from behind are AMG’s high-performance red painted brake calipers.

Styling-wise, there’s a large gloss black front splitter, an appropriately hooligan-sized roof spoiler, and a series of small black air deflectors to help smooth airflow.

Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG said: “Our customers – a young target group who set great store by styling, dynamism and independence – can now start looking forward to a dynamic high-performance car. The most powerful four-cylinder engine in the world and the AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system add up to make the Concept GLA 45 AMG a unique proposition.”

Sounds good to us.
