The new Kia Soul EV is available to order now, with prices starting at £37,295, or £33,795 with the Plug-in Car Grant subsidy deducted.

Kia has taken the decision not to offer the conventional combustion-engined Soul models in the UK, concentrating instead on the plug-in electric Soul EV.

Powered by a 64kWh lithium-ion battery, the Soul EV is said to offer a range of up to 280 miles on one charge.

Recharging via the Type 2 charge port to full capacity takes around 9½ hours, while CCS Combo charging achieves an 80% charge in around 1 hour 15 minutes via a 50kW rapid charging station.  A conventional three-pin cable will also be provided with the car.

Available exclusively in a fully-loaded ‘First Edition’ grade, the new Soul EV features full LED lighting front and rear, privacy glass, roof rails and 17-inch alloy wheels.

On the inside, black leather upholstery, electric driver’s seat, heated front seats and steering wheel, electric parking brake, climate control, smart cruise control, head-up display, 7-inch OLED display cluster, and 10.25-inch wide touch-screen infotainment system are all standard.

The latter boasts not just Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but also Uvo Connect with its own smartphone app for remote access to certain vehicle functions.

In addition, there’s a 10-speaker 640W Harman/Kardon sound system, a wireless charging pad, reversing camera and rear parking sensors.

Safety systems include forward collision avoidance, lane keep assist, lane following, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert, hill start assist, tyre pressure monitoring and emergency stop signalling.

Three colours are available – Clear White with Red roof, Quartz Black with Red roof, or Neptune Blue with a Black roof – all at no extra cost.

As you’d expect, the new Soul EV is offered with Kia’s 7-year, 100,000-mile warranty.

With order books open now, deliveries are expected during the first quarter of 2020.
