Jaguar announced today that, following intense interest, it plans to sell a limited number of examples of the extreme Jaguar XKR-S GT.

Just 10 will be made available to UK customers, with 30 offered for sale in the US and Canada.

Priced at £135,000, first deliveries are expected in October 2013.

Since first unveiling at the New York auto show, a prototype XKR-S GT has been undergoing testing in the UK and Germany both on-road and on-track.

It recently recorded a 7 min 40 sec lap time at the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit.

Powered by a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 developing 550PS and 680Nm, the XKR-S GT accelerates to 60mph in just 3.9 seconds, and has an electronically-limited top speed of 186mph.

The car features a variety of developments to increase down-force and assist high-speed cornering ability, with a carbon-fibre front splitter, dive planes, extended wheelarch spats, a larger rear wing and a rear diffuser.  Jaguar says the overall aero package can generate 145kg of down-force.

The XKR-S GT features a carbon-ceramic brake system for the first time on a production Jaguar, with 398mm front and 380mm rear discs with six- and four-piston monoblock calipers.

The suspension system has been retuned, with a wider track, increased camber, revised suspension bushings and a new steering system with a faster ratio.  Height-adjustable adaptive dampers with a race-derived twin spring system were specially developed for the XKR-S GT.
