Jaguar has announced prices for its new X-Type 2.2 Diesel saloon and estate model range, with the X-Type 2.2 Diesel costing from £22,995 for the curvaceous sports saloon and £24,165 for the spacious and dynamic estate.
Jaguar’s X-Type diesel range moves up a gear for the 2006 model year with the introduction of a new 2.2 litre turbocharged engine and six-speed manual transmission. The new engine takes the number of diesel X-Type models to four and Jaguar’s diesel range to five, with a sixth recently announced in the shape of the new XJ 2.7 Diesel.
The new 155PS engine gives X-Type customers the choice of a premium diesel with high performance and refinement in equal measure. With torque peaking on overboost at a solid 400Nm, the 2.2 litre engine delivers an ideal combination of effortless cruising power and rapid acceleration. Taking 50-75mph (80-120km/h) acceleration in 4th gear as an example, the X-Type 2.2 is timed at 6.7 seconds, putting it ahead of the pack in its segment and comparable to cars with much larger petrol engines. With 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) reached in a brisk 8.9 seconds and a top speed of 137 mph (220 km/h) in the saloon, outstanding power and overtaking ability are guaranteed.
Jaguar recently achieved remarkable success in the latest J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study released in May in the U.S. Improving to second place overall, Jaguar’s success was led by its best performing model in the survey – the X-Type. Jaguar topped the poll as the highest-ranked European nameplate. In addition, Jaguar’s Halewood plant, where the X-Type is manufactured, received J.D. Power’s Gold Award for European plant performance.
The latest generation of common-rail diesel technology in the X-Type 2.2 brings high efficiency and precise fuel metering, resulting in such low fuel consumption that around 630 miles of driving are possible on one tank of fuel. As well as offering impressive fuel economy, this technology also ensures an extremely smooth, clean-burning engine and low CO2 emissions.
The fuel-efficient 2.2 litre Diesel engine offers a combined cycle fuel economy of 47mpg from the saloon. (CO2 159g/km = 18% Benefit In Kind or BIK tax category) and the X-Type 2.2 Diesel has one of the lowest company car tax bills of any car in its sector.
In addition, as most of the X-Type 2.2 Diesel’s torque is produced at low to medium engine speeds where emissions are at their lowest, it has easily achieved the required EU 4 compliance alongside the X-Type 2.0 Diesel.
This brings business and corporate users in the UK a potential reduction in their annual company car tax bill of around 3%, so cost conscious business users looking to transfer to the new X-Type 2.2 Diesel will find price, comfort, driver appeal and comparatively low running costs an attractive package.
“The new 2.2 litre engine gives X-Type Diesel customers more of what we know they like: more power, more refinement and of course more choice,” says Jaguar Cars Managing Director, Bibiana Boerio. “The 2.0 litre turbo-diesel that signalled Jaguar’s arrival in the diesel market, has proved a great success for us across Europe – and we have every expectation that this new model will be even more popular.”
Close attention to detail has made the new X-Type 2.2 Diesel remarkably quiet and refined for a genuine performance model. A rigid cylinder block helps minimise transmitted sound, whilst Noise Reduction Technology adjusts engine settings three times every millisecond. Laminated glass and tuned glass fibre bonnet insulation reduce engine noise to a whisper, even when stationary. Add the flexibility of a six-speed gearbox to make maximum use of the turbo-diesel’s power and you have one of the smoothest, quietest, most responsive diesel cars in its class.
Two new exterior body colours – Winter Gold and Indigo – have also been introduced, and a new 15-spoke, 16-inch Antares alloy wheel is introduced from 2006MY X-Type range. The new X-Type 2.2D goes on sale from September.
The X-Type 2.2 Diesel sets the tone for other X-Type models, with extremely competitive pricing all the way up to the range topping £31,165 3.0 V6 petrol Sport Premium Estate.
