The new Ford Edge Concept, unveiled today at the LA Motor Show, offers a preview of the design of a new large SUV coming to Europe to sit alongside the Kuga and EcoSport.

The Ford Edge will feature several advanced technologies, such as an autonomous parking system that can even be operated by remote control, allowing the driver to exit the vehicle should parking in a tight space be required.

Further technologies include an obstacle avoidance system that can steer or brake automatically to avoid a collision, plus an adaptive steering system that alters the feel of the steering depending on conditions.

Ford say the Edge includes a series of developments aimed at improving aerodynamic efficiency, such as the active grille shutters that close at speed to create a more slippery shape, plus a series of ‘air curtains’ that guide air from the front down the vehicle’s sides.

The interior of the Edge features a 10-inch central touch-screen with Ford’s Sync and Voice Control technologies.  Premium materials are said to feature heavily, with leather-covered dashboard surfaces and hand-stitching to the instrument surround.
