Renault has launched the first Euro IV emissions-compliant Megane, following the introduction of the 1.9 dCi 90 engine in the Laguna range.

Sales of the Megane range have increased by 26% in the first four months of 2004, all of which is due to increased demand for diesel-powered models.

The new 92bhp engine develops maximum power at 4,000rpm with a peak torque figure of 230Nm coming in at 2,000rpm. Top speed is 108mph, with the o-62mph dash taking 12.9 seconds.

A CO2 figure of 145g/km means business users won’t have to pay the 3% benefit-in-kind supplement levied on diesel cars, while achieving 52.3 mpg on the combined cycle.

The new 1.9 dCi 90 EU4 engine is available in four of the Megane body styles – Hatch, Sport Hatch, Sport Saloon and Sport Tourer – and in Expression and Dynamique trim levels. Prices start at £13,890 for the Expression hatchback, and rise to £15,200 for the Dynamique Sport Tourer.
