Following in the fabulous footsteps of The Motherhood, and after popular demand, Fiat has launched a new YouTube film that tells the no-holds-barred truth about life as a new Dad – Welcome to The Fatherhood.

Set in the dead of night, The Fatherhood follows a weary Dad-of-two trying to get his screaming babies to sleep by driving them around the neighbourhood. As he drives, he starts to sing about his long-lost youth and questions how he’s gone from Jack the Lad to Jack the Dad.

With brutal honesty and humorous irony he sings to his new-borns:

“It’s fine because I love you and I’d never trade your mother
“But in future I’ll be abstinent and double up the rubber!”

He goes on:

“You peed inside my bedding
“But know I’ll get my own back
When I’m dancing at your wedding!”

The Fatherhood is a humorous, edgy insight into the mind of a new Dad.  Inspired by a nationwide survey that revealed new parents drive on average 1,300 miles a year trying to drive their children to sleep, The Fatherhood is the second film from Fiat that tells the truth about life as a parent.

Their first film, The Motherhood, was the film sensation of 2012.  It told the story of Mum as she swapped her designer clutch bag for a “snot-stained sack” and has been watched globally by more than three and a half million viewers.

The Fatherhood takes viewers back to the 80s with a catchy tune and a time when New Romantics were young and carefree.  With oh-so-serious poses to camera and dreamy dance sequences, the film takes visual cues from the 80s music videos everyone loves to hate.

The Fatherhood features the new Fiat 500L, Fiat’s latest addition to the Fiat 500 family.

The new Fiat 500L is aimed at style-conscious young families who are looking for a car that not only meets their practical needs but also reflects their personality. Significantly larger than the iconic Fiat 500, the Fiat 500L is plenty big enough for a family of five, whether on a night-time mercy mission, or a holiday in the Lake District.

Elena Bernardelli, Marketing Director, Fiat Group Automobiles UK, said: “After the phenomenal success of The Motherhood we were inundated with requests to see Dad’s side of the story.  As with The Motherhood, we wanted Dads everywhere to watch The Fatherhood and nod along to the story we’re telling. Just like the Fiat 500L, we hope The Fatherhood will bring a bit of fun into people’s everyday lives.”

Nick Hastings, Creative Founder of krow communications, said: “We wanted to make another film that Mums and Dads find funny simply because it’s true.  We decided to use a different musical style to the rap in The Motherhood – that would just be re-heated soup – and chose the 80s, a time when our Dad was young and carefree, and music videos were weird and funny. We’re all delighted with how it turned out.”

The Fiat 500L is the newest addition to the Fiat 500 family. The stylish and versatile car has been designed for modern young families looking for a car that doesn’t sacrifice style for practicality.

With five doors and 400 litres of boot space, the Fiat 500L is substantially bigger than the Fiat 500 but shares the smaller car’s iconic looks and numerous personalisation options, making it the perfect choice for young stylish parents who want an attractive car that works for their new family.

The Fiat 500L will be available with a choice of four low emissions engines (Euro 6 petrol and Euro 5+ diesel), with Start&Stop as standard on TwinAir and MultiJet engines. The full engine line-up comprises the award-winning TwinAir 0.9-litre petrol (105hp), 1.4-litre 16-valve petrol (95hp), 1.3-litre 16-valve MultiJet diesel (85hp) with manual or MTA transmission and flagship engine, the 1.6-litre 16-valve MultiJet diesel (105hp).

As a family car, one of the prerequisites of the Fiat 500L was to offer excellent occupant protection. The car has safety built into it including as standard six airbags, ABS, the sophisticated ESC (Electronic Stability Control) which incorporates acceleration and deceleration anti-slipping function and Hill Holder to facilitate hill starts and several other functions that improve the safety of the vehicle. That has led to the 500L being awarded a prestigious Euro NCAP five-star safety rating.

The new Fiat 500L range starts at £14,990 for the 1.4 petrol Pop Star or Easy, rising to £18,890 for the 1.6 MultiJet Lounge.
