The thought of having an SUV pick-up crossover is an appealing one. Rather than owning two vehicles, one for commercial purposes and the other for personal use, a pick-up truck can act as an all-encompassing answer.
The majority of vehicles on the market tend to be fairly expensive and out of the everyday consumer’s reach. However, one company in particular is starting to gain a foothold in the market, with affordable pick-up trucks that maintain high levels of build quality, plenty of space and ultimate comfort.
Great Wall Motors
Great Wall Motors has been established for over 35 years with its range of vehicles now sold in over 100 countries. In the past few years, Great Wall commercial trucks have participated in the Dakar Rally and its success at this famous event is testament to its rugged and reliable principles.
Over 700,000 units of its Steed pick-up truck have been sold across the globe. Today, the company offers four different variants, each of which provides tailored solutions for commercial purposes or outdoor pursuits.
Furthermore, every Great Wall Steed pick-up comes with a six-year warranty, underlining the manufacturer’s belief in quality and dependability.
Great Wall’s entry vehicle is the Steed S, which has an on-the-road price of just £13,998 excluding VAT. What’s more, with an insurance group 7A and a combined cycle of 34MPG, it is one of the most cost effective commercial vehicles on the market.
In spite of its low price point, the Steed S has immensely strong build quality and features several additions as standard. These include 16-inch alloy wheels, leather interior, air conditioning, Bluetooth connectivity and a Thatcham-approved category one alarm.
For just £1,000 more you can get the Steed Chrome, featuring all the same great specifications and benefits with some extra-special styling details.
Additions that come as standard include: chrome side and sports bars, fog lamp surrounds and rear lamp finishers. Other extras, such as privacy glass, over rail bed liner, door entry glass and a carpet mat set, gives the Steed Chrome a classy and refined finish.
The Steed Tracker comes in at £14,998 excluding VAT, the same price as the Chrome. However, this particular special edition pick-up is designed for tough countryside conditions and the great outdoors.
With General Grabber AT off-road tyres and mud flaps, along with electric ‘on the move’ selection between 2WD and 4WD, you will be able to fully utilise the tracker’s all-terrain credentials. A tow bar capable of pulling 2.5 tonnes also underlines its commercial potential.
The next model in the Steed range is the SE and yet again this rugged Great Wall pick-up does not disappoint. As well as the same impressive specifications and a range of features, just £2,000 on top of the standard S will get you some noticeable additions.
These include rear parking sensors, chrome side bars, rear cargo load-liner, chrome trim to daytime running lights and a body-coloured hard-top canopy with roof rails and rear spoiler. Even when this option is fitted, the SE is able to carry up to one tonne of weight.
