Citroen’s new flagship, the C6, is being unveiled to the world at the Geneva Motor Show (1-13 March), following in the tracks of iconic large Citroens of the past with its combination of aerodynamic styling, cutting-edge technology and high levels of refinement and comfort.

Representing the latest stage in the rejuvenation of the Citroen Marque, the C6 majors on comfort, with a ‘lounge on wheels’ approach that benefits from the latest development of the Company’s acclaimed hydropneumatic suspension. The design lines give C6 the attractive styling of a coupĂ©, whilst its interior space, impressive levels of equipment and quality fittings are in keeping with those of an executive saloon.

The C6 cabin is a bright and spacious place to be, thanks to the car’s 2.9m wheelbase – one of the longest in the class – generous overall dimensions and large, glazed area. The First Class travel experience is enhanced by the electronically controlled suspension system that provides a travelling experience that is more glide than ride, the zonal air conditioning with soft diffusion system to ensure optimum thermal comfort, as well as the fitting of laminated side windows to filter out exterior noise.

The refinement and comfort is further highlighted by the use of high quality wood on the dashboard and door storage compartments, discreet chrome touches around the cabin, as well as leather seats and door panels. Both front seats are multi-adjustable, while the availability of premium comfort, electrically-controlled, individual heated seats in the rear allows passengers to choose their ideal seating position.

From the outside the C6’s striking poise, with its long front and short rear overhangs, captures much of Citroen’s design pedigree, creating an on-the-road presence that is unique in the executive sector. At 4.91m long and 1.86m wide, the proportions of the C6 are in keeping with those of an undersized limousine, yet the dynamic shape and design are more representative of a coupĂ©.

The aerodynamic profile of the C6 rises from the wide, chrome-plated chevron grille at the front, over the sweeping roof line and down to the rear end where a retractable air deflector deploys at speed for improved aerodynamics. The many distinctive features include frameless doors, a concave rear screen design and rear lights that curve over the wings.

A head-up display projects a virtual image, providing key driving information, onto the windscreen, helping to improve safety by allowing drivers to keep their eyes on the road ahead. Controls on the dashboard allow the driver to turn the display on or off, select which information to display or adjust the image format.

Shared information such as in-car entertainment, communications and satellite navigation is provided via a centrally-mounted colour screen, whilst the steering wheel houses the cruise control and speed limiter functions. In a first for a Citroen, the traditional handbrake is replaced by an electrically operated parking brake, with a control mounted on the centre console, freeing up room for useful storage space.

In keeping with its executive car status, the C6 offers exceptional levels of equipment, including features pioneered by Citroen such as the innovative Lane Departure Warning System, which alerts the driver to involuntary lane changes, and Xenon dual function directional headlamps which enable the driver to see more of the road when cornering.

Front and rear parking sensors, daytime running lights and butterfly-type, flat-blade rain sensitive wipers are also available, while state-of-the-art communications and entertainment equipment, including a NaviDrive telematics system, Bluetooth mobile phone technology and a high performance JBL hi-fi system, can also be specified.

Built on the same platform that has already provided Europe’s highest scoring car according to Euro NCAP, the C6 promises the highest standards of safety. There are nine airbags, including one to protect the driver’s knees, as well as active head restraints which help prevent whiplash injuries. And helping the driver to maintain control in even the most demanding of conditions, the C6 features ESP and a high-performance braking system that includes ventilated discs at both front and rear.

Effortless cruising is provided by two V6 engines. Designed to provide a smooth delivery of power, the 3.0 litre petrol unit delivers 215hp at 6,000 rpm and 290 Nm of torque at 3,752 rpm. The refined 2.7 HDi diesel engine is equipped with a new generation particulate filter and develops 208hp at 4,000 rpm and 440 Nm of torque at just 1,900 rpm. Both engines meet Euro IV emission standards and are mated to six speed automatic gearboxes.
