Further details of the new Caterham Seven 160 have been released by the company as the new model prepares to enter production.

The Caterham 160 is powered by a turbocharged three-cylinder 660cc Suzuki engine producing a modest-sounding 80hp.

However, combined with the 160’s light weight, that’s still enough for a top speed of 100mph and a 0-62mph time of just 6.5 seconds.

Caterham has also revealed that the 160 can achieve 57.6 mpg on the combined cycle and emits just 114 g/km of CO2, placing it in VED Band C with a £30 annual road tax bill, although it’s free for the first year.

With a price tag of £14,995 in component form or £17,995 fully built, Caterham says the 160 is not only the most economical car they’ve ever built, but also the most cost-effective.

Given its light weight and live rear axle, it should also be one of the most entertaining.
