Do you remember when Volvo entered the British Touring Car Championship with the 850 Estate in 1994?

Honda are clearly hoping to recreate some of the Swedes’ success in 2014 by competing with the new Civic Tourer.

The Civic Tourer will make its BTCC debut in March with drivers Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden behind the wheel.

Not surprisingly, it will be the only estate car on the grid.

Undaunted, Shedden said: “It might be a Tourer, but it’s still a Civic, the car that has won every championship in BTCC for the last three seasons.”

Peter Crolla, Honda Yuasa Racing Team Manager agreed: “Racing with the Civic Tourer means no compromise over the Civic hatchback. The weight, wheelbase, layout and suspension remain the same, but naturally, the length of the car is extended due to the larger tailgate. After two competitive seasons in the BTCC with the hatchback, it will be an interesting challenge to ensure the Tourer keeps Matt, Flash [Gordon Shedden] and the team at the head of the championships throughout next season.”

Testing of the new BTCC Civic Tourer begins in January, while the first round at Brands Hatch on 29/30 March will mark its race debut.

The new Honda Civic Tourer is available to order now with first deliveries arriving in February 2014.  Prices start at £20,265.
