The most secure car in Britain is an Audi A8, according to the results of the British Insurance Car Security Awards.

The A8 scored the highest number of points ever allotted to any car on sale in the UK, beating 12 other models in its segment. It scored 5 stars for both ‘theft of’ and ‘theft from’ security, and consequently picked up the best-in-class award in the Executive/Luxury category – one of 11 categories judged by Thatcham experts.

The Audi A8 range not only features a full complement of safeguards, including Thatcham Category One alarm and immobiliser technology, but is also the only model range to feature laminated side glass for maximum break-in protection as standard.

The Audi A3 scored five stars for ‘theft of’ and four for ‘theft from’ security, to win the best-in-class award in the Small Family Car category.

Car security is becoming increasingly important, with experts estimating that, on average, around 240 vehicle break-ins are attempted every hour in Britain.

Commenting on Audi’s success, Director of Audi Kevin Rose said: ” It will be enormously reassuring for our Audi A3 and A8 customers to know that their cars are officially confirmed by Thatcham’s research as the most secure of their respective types. It is also particularly rewarding for our engineers to know that their excellent work has resulted in industry leading security standards. This could not be more appropriate for the ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ company.”
