The revised Mazda6 range will go on sale in the UK this summer, priced from £23,045, and featuring a new 2.5-litre petrol engine with cylinder deactivation.

From the outside, the 2018 Mazda6 features a restyled front grille, re-profiled bumpers, and new LED headlights that incorporate the front fog-lights.

For the interior, Mazda continues to move its range up-market, with new, more luxurious materials such as Sen wood, Nappa leather and suede.

The central touch-screen is now larger at eight inches, while the display in the instrument cluster increases to seven inches.

The head-up display now projects directly onto the windscreen, and the seats have been revised to offer greater comfort.

Perhaps the biggest change is the addition of a new GT Sport Nav+ model, which builds on the Sport Nav trim with a gunmetal front grille, Nappa leather, ventilated front seats and heated rear seats, frameless auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and a full safety pack, complete with a choice of premium finishes such as wood and coloured leather.

It’s available exclusively with a new 2.5-litre petrol engine that develops 194ps and 258Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The new engine features cylinder deactivation, capable of switching off two cylinders between 25 and 50mph to improve efficiency.

The existing 2.0-petrol engine is carried over but gains new pistons, intake ports, improved cooling and revised fuel injection, while the 2.2-litre diesel has its power boosted from 175ps to 184ps.

All models gain suspension revisions aimed at enhancing driver engagement without sacrificing comfort, with larger front dampers with improved mounts, lower steering knuckles, and more rigid mounts to attach the steering gear to the suspension cross member.

Refinement is said to have been improved by the use of thicker insulation panels in the floor and rear wheel housings, additional material in the centre tunnel and roof lining, and a series of underfloor aerodynamic improvements to quieten air flow under the vehicle.

Every model in the range now benefits from blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane keep assist, smart city brake support and even radar cruise control on automatic models.

The new 2018 Mazda6 Saloon and Tourer go on sale in the UK this summer.
