For the first time, the Mini hatch is now available as a five-door model.
The new five-door Mini is 161 mm longer than the existing three-door model, and boasts a 72 mm longer wheelbase at 2,567 mm.
This increase in exterior dimensions allows for greater passenger space, with rear legroom up by 72 mm and cargo capacity up by 67 litres to 278.
The 60:40 split rear seats can be folded forward to increase this to 941 litres, while available options include a dual-section load floor, lashing eyes and cargo nets.
Engine choices include a three-cylinder diesel unit for the Cooper D with 116hp, capable of returning 78.5 mpg with CO2 emissions from 95 g/km.
The Cooper S is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 192hp and can sprint from 0-62mph in 6.8 seconds.
A three-cylinder 136hp petrol unit and a new 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel with 170hp also join the range, the latter capable of 68.9 mpg yet with a 7.5-second 0-62mph time.
A six-speed manual gearbox is standard, with a six-speed automatic available on every power-plant as an option.
Standard equipment includes Bluetooth connectivity, USB interface, electric mirrors, and front fog lights, with air conditioning available free of charge across the range.
Options include dual-zone climate control, heated seats, panoramic glass roof, heated windscreen, automatic headlights and wipers, Harmon Kardon hi-fi system, and Park Distance Control.
All models feature an 8.8-inch colour display in the central instrument pack, with an optional LED light ring that changes colour to indicate obstacles when parking or navigation instructions.
Prices are £600 higher than the three-door, with the Mini five-door starting from £15,900. It’s expected to be available in the UK this autumn.
