Mazda has unveiled the production version of the new Mazda 2 ahead of its official worldwide debut at the Paris motor show in October.

The new Mazda 2 remains faithful to the look previewed by the well-received Hazumi concept shown earlier in the year.

The new model is set to go on sale in Japan in the autumn, with UK availability expected early in 2015.

Following in the footsteps of its Mazda 3, Mazda 6 and CX-5 forebears, the new Mazda 2 makes full use of the company’s Kodo ‘Soul of Motion’ design language and fuel-efficient SkyActiv technologies.

Among the power-plants will be a new 1.5-litre SkyActiv-D diesel engine, as well as multiple power versions of the 1.5-litre petrol unit.

The existing Mazda 2 was a success for the company, notching up over 2.4 million sales globally since it was launched in 1996.
