The Vauxhall Astra is now available with the company’s new 1.6-litre CDTi diesel engine.

Previously offered on the Zafira Tourer and Meriva, the 1.6 CDTi is available in two power outputs: 110PS and 136PS.

The 110PS version offers CO2 emissions of just 97 g/km and 76.3 mpg on the combined cycle, while the more powerful 136PS version records 72.4 mpg and 104 g/km.

Vauxhall say the new engine is quieter and smoother than previous diesel units, and makes use of a lean NOx trap (LNT) to improve efficiency.

The 1.6 CDTi is mated to a revised six-speed manual gearbox with improved shift quality.

The Astra 1.6 CDTi is available to order now, with first deliveries expected in April.
