Nissan’s Safety Shield system can be added to both models for £450, which includes front collision avoidance, driver attention support and traffic sign recognition systems.

A more powerful 1.6-litre DIG-T petrol unit with 150PS and 240Nm will join the line-up in the autumn.  It is expected to retain the smaller unit’s 50.4mpg figure, but with CO2 emissions only marginally higher at 132 g/km.

The 1.6-litre dCi offers 130PS and is available in both two- and four-wheel-drive guises, plus the option of automatic transmission.  In 2WD manual form it records 115 g/km and 64.2mpg; Xtronic auto models record 119 g/km and 61.4mpg; 4WD manual versions achieve 57.6mpg and 129 g/km.
