The Mitsubishi ASX range has been refreshed for 2014, most notably with the introduction of an automatic transmission option and a reduction in price by nearly as much as £2,400 on some models.
Built on the same platform as the Mitsubishi Outlander and Lancer, the ASX is powered by a choice of 1.6-litre petrol with 115bhp, 1.8-litre turbodiesel with 114bhp, or a 2.2-litre turbodiesel with 148bhp and 360Nm.
The 1.6 drives the front wheels through a five-speed manual transmission, while the 2.2 is available exclusively with a six-speed auto and Mitsubishi’s flexible All Wheel Control (AWC) four-wheel drive system. The 1.8 uses a six-speed manual gearbox and is available with either two- or four-wheel drive.
Fuel economy is a strong point throughout the range, with the 1.8 diesel recording 55.4 mpg on the combined cycle with CO2 emissions of 134 g/km.
Three trim grades are available – 2, 3 and 4 – with even the base model benefiting from alloy wheels, air conditioning, keyless entry and – new for 2014 – Bluetooth connectivity.
The ASX 3 grade adds 17-inch alloy wheels, climate control, parking sensors, privacy glass, front fog lights, cruise control, light- and rain-sensors and heated front seats, among other niceties.
The top-spec ASX 4 model further adds four-wheel drive, leather upholstery, reversing camera, satellite navigation and a panoramic glass roof.
Prices now start at £14,999 for the 1.6 ASX2, down from £16,499, while the range-topping ASX4 2.2 is now priced at £23,899, down from £26,295.
