Visitors to the 2005 Porsche Festival at Brands Hatch (Bank Holiday August 28/29) are in for a real treat this summer.
Not only will the event celebrate the birthdays of five icons of the legendary marque, it will also feature the biggest collection of Porsches spanning its near sixty-year history ever gathered on UK soil.
Every blade of the 340-acre Brands Hatch circuit will be utilised by the event, organised by the 16,000 strong Porsche Club GB. As well as some classic road and race-cars, displays will also feature some of the more unusual vehicles to carry the famous badge, including a collection of Porsche powered tractors!
In terms of celebrations, the Carrera will mark its half-century, the 912 its tenth birthday and the 924 becomes 30-years old this year. Meanwhile, the ‘Slantnose’ Turbo hits 20 and the ‘youngster’ of the quintet, the 993, reaches its 10 th birthday.
In addition to the display of every Porsche model, set out in chronological order, historic racing cars will be on show in the pit garages, with owners dressed in period costume.
On the famous 1.2-mile Brands Hatch Indy track, there will be Le Mans-style parade laps plus a Le Mans car demonstration featuring the most successful of them all, the awesome 956.
Porsches also lead the way in the competitive element of the weekend, with championship rounds of the Michelin Porsche Club, Michelin Porsche Open, BRSCC Porsche 924 and Michelin Porsche Speed series. The natural amphitheatre of the Brands Indy circuit will ensure that visitors get unrivalled views of the action throughout what promises to be an historic weekend.
