VW Golf Mk7 Estate

The new VW Golf Estate opens for ordering tomorrow (2nd July), with a £765 price premium over its hatchback brother.

Starting from £17,915, the new Golf Estate will be available with seven engines and three trim levels – S, SE and GT.

Load-space has been increased by 100 litres over the old model with the seats in place, to 605 litres.  With seats folded, the full cargo area will accommodate 1,620 litres in the Mk7 Golf Estate, up from 1,495 litres for the Mk6.  The rear seat backs can be folded remotely via a release in the boot.

The cargo bay features a multi-level floor with storage for valuables to be kept out of sight, plus a roller-blind cover with net to keep items secure.  The load-space is 1,831mm long by 1,003mm wide, and can carry a 600-611kg payload depending on engine.

Roof rails are standard on all models (black on S and SE, silver on GT), while the towing capacity has been increased to 1,600kg for a braked trailer.

A total of seven engines are available from launch: a 1.2-litre TSI with either 85 PS  or 105 PS; a 1.4-litre TSI with 122 PS or 140 PS with cylinder deactivation; a 1.6-litre TDI with 90 PS or 105 PS; and a 2.0-litre TDI with 150 PS.

Transmission choices vary by engine, with either five- or six-speed manuals or the option of seven-speed DSG.

BlueMotion technology is featured on all models, with stop/start and battery regeneration.

A full BlueMotion model will go on sale towards the end of the year, powered by a 1.6-litre 110 PS diesel engine with six-manual gearbox.  Fuel economy is expected to be around 85.6 mpg on the combined cycle with CO2 emissions of 87 g/km.  Pricing for this model has yet to be confirmed.
